The Scientific Support
When individuals learn the skills of mindfulness and mindful eating, research suggests they develop a healthier relationship with food, change unhealthy habits, achieve modest weight loss and improve well-being (Kristeller, 2020).
What else have you tried and why hasn't it worked?
Dieting, the use of appetite suppressant drugs, and weight management surgeries undoubtedly assist individuals to achieve desired weight loss outcomes. However, in the absence of mindfulness and mindful eating skills, these interventions may only offer temporary relief, particularly if they fail to teach you how to change unhealthy habits of overeating.
Why Learn the Skills of Mindful Eating?
For individuals with unhealthy overeating habits: Mindfulness Matters. Research has shown that individuals, who gain mindfulness and mindful eating skills, reduce emotional and binge eating behaviours (Kristeller et al., 2014; Pepe et al., 2023), experience less stress, anxiety and depression; more more positive emotions, (Hooker et al., 2022; Kristeller, 2020; Kristeller & Hallett, 1999), make positive lifestyle changes (Kristeller, 2020; Winiarz et al., 2023); and achieve modest weight loss (Mason et al., 2016).
